What data is processed
Kukuluku does not operate its own processing servers and does not require an account. During use, the following is sent directly to third-party providers:
- Selected text — sent to Google Translate and, if enabled, to your chosen AI provider.
- Target language — sent as part of translation requests.
- Translation provider — Google Translate is used for core translations.
- AI provider — optional explanations via Claude, GPT, Gemini, or Grok.
Only text you select yourself is sent. Kukuluku does not read the rest of the page, and does not send the page, its title, or its address anywhere.
When translation or AI explanation is requested, selected text is processed under the third-party provider’s own policy. Kukuluku does not control third-party retention or downstream processing.
The address of the page you are on
Kukuluku does not record which pages you visit. There is no browsing history, no list of addresses, and no list of domains — not on your device, and not on any server.
The extension reads the address of the tab you are on in one situation only: while the Kukuluku popup is open. It takes the host name — for example example.com — so it can show that name next to the not on this site switch. This is what the activeTab permission is for.
The address is used to draw that one line and is then discarded. A site name is written down only if you turn that switch on yourself, and then it goes into your own local list described in section 05.
API keys
API keys are stored locally on your device only using chrome.storage.local.
Keys are not sent to Kukuluku infrastructure. A key is sent only to the AI provider you entered it for, and only when you ask for an explanation.
History and lexicon
Kukuluku can store recent translations locally in your browser so you can review or copy them from the extension popup. This history may include the selected text, the translated text, source language, target language, and timestamp.
Words you look up more than once are also kept locally, as a lexicon you can review. A saved entry holds the word or phrase, its translation, and how many separate days you have met it.
Both are stored using chrome.storage.local. Neither is sent to Kukuluku servers, and both can be cleared from the extension.
Sites where Kukuluku stays quiet
You can switch Kukuluku off for a particular site. The site’s host name is then saved locally so the extension knows to stay silent there.
This list contains only sites you added yourself. It is not a record of where you have been: a site you never switched off never appears in it. You can see the whole list, and remove anything from it, in the extension settings.
Local usage counters
Kukuluku stores local counters, for example translation count and active days, to decide when to show optional rating or support prompts.
These counters contain no personal identifiers and stay on your device.
No analytics, no ads, no sale
Kukuluku does not include analytics trackers or ad SDKs and does not sell user data.
Kukuluku uses user data only to provide and improve selected-text translation and optional AI explanations, and complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

- Google Translate — core translation. Google Privacy
- Anthropic Claude — optional AI explanations. Anthropic Privacy
- OpenAI GPT — optional AI explanations. OpenAI Privacy
- Google Gemini — optional AI explanations. Google Privacy
- xAI Grok — optional AI explanations. xAI Privacy
How to delete your data
- Everything at once — remove Kukuluku from
chrome://extensions. This clears all extension local storage. - API key — open Kukuluku → settings → AI breakdown → clear the key field → save key.
- Translation history — open Kukuluku → history → clear.
- Lexicon — open Kukuluku → settings → lexicon → delete next to a word.
- Quiet sites — open Kukuluku → settings → not on these sites → turn back on.
Policy changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update the date above and describe key updates in the Chrome Web Store release notes.
